Ever since Carnival Cruise Line announced it was replacing its longtime loyalty program with the new Carnival Rewards system, one question has kept coming up among loyal cruisers:
“What exactly do I get for all the days I’ve spent sailing with Carnival?”
The cruise line has now answered much of that question.
With the new loyalty program set to launch in just a couple of months, Carnival has revealed additional details about its new Milestone recognition program, explaining how guests will be rewarded simply for spending more days at sea.
Unlike other parts of Carnival Rewards, Milestones aren’t based on how much money you spend. Instead, they’re designed to recognize long-time cruisers who continue returning to Carnival year after year.
Milestones Are Separate From the Main Rewards Program
One of the biggest sources of confusion surrounding Carnival Rewards has been the different ways guests earn benefits.
Carnival has now clarified that Milestones, Stars, and Points all serve different purposes.
That means earning one doesn’t necessarily affect the others.
The important thing to remember is that Milestones are based entirely on the number of days you’ve sailed with Carnival.
It doesn’t matter:
- How much you spend onboard.
- How many cruises you’ve taken.
- Whether you book inside cabins or suites.
- Which Carnival ship you sail.
Every day spent onboard counts toward your lifetime Milestone total.
The longer you sail with Carnival over the years, the more recognition you’ll receive.
Your First Milestone Arrives at 50 Days
Guests won’t need hundreds of cruise days before seeing their first reward.
The first Milestone level begins once passengers reach 50 lifetime sailing days with Carnival.
At that point, they’ll receive:
- 5,000 Carnival Rewards Points.
- A special Milestone Sail & Sign card.
Those bonus points can be redeemed toward several cruise purchases.
Examples Carnival has provided include:
- Cruise deposits
- Future cruise fares
- Onboard spending
- Pre-cruise purchases
Sample redemption values currently include:
- Around 1,357 points for a six-pack of soda.
- About 2,400 points for dinner at Bonsai Teppanyaki.
- Roughly 3,000 points for a Thermal Suite day pass.
The exact value will depend on how guests choose to redeem their points.
The Benefits Increase at 100 Days
Once cruisers reach 100 sailing days, Carnival adds several new recognition perks.
At this level, guests receive:
- 10,000 Carnival Rewards Points.
- Special Sail & Sign card.
- Commemorative Milestone coin.
- Onboard recognition.
- Milestone onboard credit.
Carnival hasn’t yet explained exactly what “onboard recognition” will involve.
Likewise, the amount of onboard credit hasn’t been publicly announced and could vary depending on future program updates.
Still, it’s clear that reaching the 100-day mark unlocks considerably more recognition than the entry-level Milestone.
Rewards Continue Every 100 Days
Unlike some loyalty programs that stop adding meaningful benefits after a certain level, Carnival says Milestone recognition will continue throughout a guest’s cruising lifetime.
Passengers reaching:
- 200 days
- 300 days
- 400 days
will receive the same package of rewards offered at the 100-day level.
That means every additional 100 sailing days earns another round of bonus recognition rather than requiring guests to wait for a completely new tier.
It’s Carnival’s way of recognizing continued loyalty over many years of cruising.
The Biggest Rewards Begin at 500 Days
The most exclusive Milestone recognition starts once guests surpass 500 lifetime sailing days.
That’s the equivalent of spending well over 16 months aboard Carnival ships.
Cruisers reaching that milestone receive everything included at the 100-day level, plus additional keepsakes created specifically for Carnival’s most loyal guests.
Extra rewards include:
- A commemorative award.
- A commemorative gift.
Unlike onboard benefits, these items won’t be handed out during the cruise.
Instead, Carnival says they’ll be shipped directly to the guest’s home.
The same recognition will continue every additional 100 sailing days after that, including:
- 600 days
- 700 days
- 800 days
- And every milestone beyond
For Carnival’s most dedicated cruisers, the recognition program effectively continues for life.
So What’s the Difference Between Stars, Points, and Milestones?
If you’ve been confused by Carnival’s new terminology, you’re definitely not alone.
Since the new program was announced, many guests have struggled to understand how each part works.
Here’s the simplest breakdown.
Stars
Stars determine your loyalty status within Carnival Rewards.
These are the familiar membership levels:
- Red
- Gold
- Platinum
- Diamond
Your Star level determines many of the ongoing loyalty benefits you’ll receive while cruising.
Points
Points are the program’s spending currency.
Guests earn them through:
- Cruise purchases
- Onboard spending
- Eligible Carnival Mastercard purchases
- Certain everyday spending using the affiliated credit card
Points can later be redeemed for rewards.
Milestones
Milestones are entirely different.
They’re lifetime recognition awards earned simply by sailing.
Every day onboard counts toward future Milestone achievements, regardless of spending.
Unlike Stars and Points, Milestones do not expire.
Spending Still Matters—Just in Different Ways
One important distinction is how guests earn each type of reward.
Stars and Points are largely tied to spending.
That includes purchases made:
- Before the cruise
- During the cruise
- Through Carnival’s Mastercard
Those balances can also expire after certain periods if requirements aren’t met.
Milestones work differently.
Because they’re based solely on lifetime sailing days, guests never lose progress they’ve already earned.
Whether someone takes one cruise every year or several cruises annually, every day spent onboard remains permanently credited toward future Milestone recognition.
Carnival’s New Program Is Still Evolving
Although Carnival has now shared many of the missing details, the company acknowledges that the new rewards program is still being introduced.
Additional benefits, clarification, or adjustments could still be announced once guests begin actively using Carnival Rewards after launch.
Cruise lines frequently refine loyalty programs based on guest feedback, and Carnival has already made several updates since first unveiling the new system.
For longtime Carnival cruisers, however, one thing is now much clearer.
Every day spent at sea will continue counting toward lifetime recognition—and the more time guests spend sailing, the more exclusive those rewards become.
