Instead, guests will spend the day in Taranto, Italy, after the cruise line adjusted the itinerary because of expected congestion at the original port.
The change affects only one sailing and does not alter the overall length of the cruise.
August 22 Voyage Receives Revised Schedule
According to a notice sent to booked guests, the itinerary change applies to Sun Princess’ August 22, 2026 departure.
Under the revised schedule:
- Corfu, Greece has been removed.
- Taranto, Italy has been added as a replacement.
- The new port visit will take place on August 26, 2026.
Princess Cruises explained that the decision was made because of anticipated cruise ship congestion in Corfu on the day the vessel was originally scheduled to arrive.
Rather than bringing another large ship into an already busy port, the cruise line opted to substitute a different Mediterranean destination while keeping the remainder of the itinerary intact.
Shore Excursions Will Be Automatically Refunded
Whenever a cruise itinerary changes, one of the first questions passengers ask is what happens to their pre-booked tours.
Princess Cruises confirmed that guests who reserved shore excursions through the cruise line for Corfu will automatically receive refunds using their original method of payment.
The company also advised passengers that new excursion options for Taranto will be released through its usual booking channels ahead of the sailing.
Guests who booked independent tours directly with local operators in Corfu may need to contact those providers separately regarding their individual cancellation policies.
Cruise Still Connects the Eastern and Western Mediterranean
Although one destination has changed, the overall vacation remains largely the same.
The seven-night itinerary sails between Piraeus (Athens) and Barcelona, allowing passengers to explore several destinations across Southern Europe.
Other scheduled ports include:
- Santorini, Greece
- Messina, Sicily
- Bar, Montenegro
- Taranto, Italy (replacing Corfu)
The voyage is part of Sun Princess’ European summer deployment, where the ship operates a series of Mediterranean cruises that can be combined into longer vacations of up to 21 nights.
For travelers looking to experience multiple regions during one trip, these back-to-back itineraries remain one of the cruise line’s most popular options.
Why Corfu Is Expected to Be So Busy
Corfu is one of the Mediterranean’s most sought-after cruise destinations, particularly during the summer months when multiple ships frequently arrive on the same day.
Industry schedules indicate that August 26 is expected to be an especially busy day for the Greek island.
