Cruising with kids can be magical… until you realize you have no idea whether they’re in the kids’ club, by the pool, or halfway to the soft-serve machine.

On the world’s largest ships, that’s a lot of ground to cover (and a lot of mini panic attacks for parents).

Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Star of the Seas, has just rolled out a solution — and it might finally end the “Where’s my kid?” game at sea.

Meet the WOW Band: A Colorful, Waterproof Tracker

The new Adventure Ocean WOW Band is designed for kids aged 3 to 12 and connects directly to the Royal Caribbean app.

Once your child is wearing one, you can:

  • See their exact location anywhere on the ship in real time
  • Unlock your stateroom door with the band (no fumbling for keycards)
  • Approve small purchases (so no surprise arcade splurges)
  • Instantly view their muster station during an emergency

The band itself is bright, durable, and waterproof — perfect for pool days, splash parks, and adventurous shore excursions.

Why Parents Will Love It on Mega-Ships

Star of the Seas and her sister ship, Icon of the Seas, can each carry 7,600 guests across 18 decks. Even the most independent child can get turned around in that kind of floating city.

With the WOW Band, parents get peace of mind without needing to hover — and kids get to enjoy a little more freedom while still being within virtual reach.

💡 Pro Tip: You’ll need to connect to the ship’s WiFi for the tracking feature to work, but it won’t eat into your internet package.

How to Get One Onboard

  1. Visit the Adventure Ocean Kids’ Club (Deck 6) after boarding.
  2. Enroll your child in the tracking program.
  3. Set up purchase permissions and safety features.
  4. Open the Royal Caribbean app and select Find My Kid to start tracking.

Setup takes just a few minutes — and once it’s done, you’re set for the entire voyage.

A Sign of Bigger Things to Come?

While WOW Bands have been available on other Royal Caribbean ships for check-ins and purchases, the live location tracking is currently exclusive to Star of the Seas.

Royal Caribbean tested a similar system — Kidfinder — on Icon of the Seas in 2024, so there’s a good chance more ships could see the upgrade soon.

The Great Cruise Parenting Debate

This technology also reignites one of the hottest topics among cruise parents: When is it okay for kids to roam alone?

Some families start allowing short solo adventures as early as 8–10 years old, while others hold off until their teens.

Cruise lines don’t set strict age limits, but many kids’ clubs let children sign themselves out around 12–13 years old (sometimes younger with parental consent).

Even with tracking tools, safety basics still apply:

  • Avoid balconies unless with a parent
  • Don’t go into unfamiliar staterooms
  • Stick with siblings or friends
  • Know where your muster station is
  • Keep in touch via ship-approved messaging or walkie-talkies

Why This Matters for Family Cruising

Royal Caribbean’s “Find My Kid” isn’t just a gadget — it’s a bridge between parental peace of mind and a child’s independence.

It could make family cruising less stressful and more enjoyable, especially on the mega-ships where kids could easily spend hours exploring.

And for parents? It means fewer frantic sprints across the pool deck and more time to actually enjoy your own vacation.
