Royal Caribbean didn’t just have a good showing in the latest cruise ship rankings—it practically took over the leaderboard.
The cruise line claimed every position from No. 1 through No. 7 in Cruiseline.com’s 2026 Member Choice Awards for Best Cruise Ship Overall.
Add another Royal Caribbean vessel in ninth place, and the company finished with an impressive eight ships inside the overall top 10.
At the very top was Utopia of the Seas, followed by Wonder of the Seas and the much newer Star of the Seas.
The only two vessels preventing a complete Royal Caribbean top-10 sweep came from Celebrity Cruises—which happens to be Royal Caribbean’s sister brand.
These results weren’t selected by a small judging panel or industry executives.
They were based on verified member reviews from passengers who sailed during 2025, making the rankings an interesting snapshot of what everyday cruisers actually enjoyed.
And when you look beyond the overall leaderboard, Royal Caribbean’s performance becomes even harder to ignore.
Royal Caribbean Didn’t Stop at Winning Best Cruise Ship
Taking seven consecutive positions would have been enough to make headlines, but Royal Caribbean collected several other major awards along the way.
The cruise line was named Best Mainstream Cruise Line for the fifth consecutive year.
It also ranked first among cruise lines for onboard activities and entertainment—an area where Royal Caribbean has spent years positioning itself differently from more traditional cruise vacations.
Several individual ships then walked away with additional honors:
- Utopia of the Seas – No. 1 Best Cruise Ship Overall.
- Utopia of the Seas – Best Ship for Food and Dining.
- Utopia of the Seas – Best Ship for Service.

- Icon of the Seas – Best Ship for Activities and Entertainment for the second consecutive year.

- Royal Caribbean – Top cruise line for Activities and Entertainment.
Utopia’s performance is particularly notable because passengers didn’t simply rate the ship highly as an overall experience.
It also came out ahead in three areas that can heavily influence how cruisers remember a vacation: where they sleep, what they eat, and how they’re treated onboard.
That’s a pretty strong combination for a ship primarily designed around short cruise getaways.
The 2026 Top 10 Cruise Ships
The full ranking tells an even more interesting story.
Royal Caribbean owns the first seven positions, Celebrity Ascent interrupts the streak at No. 8, Harmony of the Seas puts Royal Caribbean back on the board at No. 9, and Celebrity Silhouette closes out the top 10.

There are two ways to read this table.
The obvious takeaway is Royal Caribbean’s dominance. But look at the scores themselves, and you’ll notice something else: the differences are incredibly small.
Utopia of the Seas has a clearer advantage at the top with its 4.591 score, but once you move further down the leaderboard, several ships are separated by only thousandths of a point.
Symphony of the Seas scored 4.453, for example, while Icon of the Seas finished immediately behind it at 4.451.
That’s a difference of just 0.002 points.
So while the ranking order makes for an eye-catching top 10, it shouldn’t necessarily be interpreted as meaning the fifth-ranked ship provides a noticeably better vacation than the seventh-ranked one.
For most passengers, personal cruising style will matter far more than those tiny numerical differences.
Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Nearly Own the Entire Leaderboard
The influence of the wider Royal Caribbean family becomes even more obvious when you include the ships that narrowly missed the top 10.
Five vessels received honorable mentions:
- Celebrity Eclipse
- Celebrity Beyond
- Koningsdam from Holland America Line
- Allure of the Seas
- Celebrity Summit
That means Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises account for the overwhelming majority of vessels appearing across the top rankings and honorable mentions.
Holland America’s Koningsdam is the major outsider in that group. It’s also interesting because these aren’t all identical cruise experiences.
Royal Caribbean’s newest ships lean heavily toward the floating-resort concept, while Celebrity generally offers a somewhat different onboard atmosphere.
That variety makes the wider corporate showing particularly impressive.
Why Are Short Royal Caribbean Cruises Scoring So Well?
Here’s where the rankings get really interesting.
Look at what Utopia of the Seas actually does.
Instead of spending its schedule on weeklong Caribbean cruises, the massive Oasis-class ship was specifically positioned around quick 3- and 4-night Bahamas vacations from Port Canaveral, including visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Royal Caribbean has promoted the concept as a huge weekend-style getaway.
Apparently, passengers are buying into it.
Think about what someone wants from a three-night cruise. You probably aren’t booking it because you want six quiet sea days to finish a novel.
You want to board, drop your bag, grab a drink, hit the pool, see a show, eat far too much food, spend a day at CocoCay, and pack as much vacation as possible into a long weekend.
That’s exactly the type of experience Utopia was built to provide.
The short-cruise formula has several advantages
For many travelers, these sailings offer:
- A smaller time commitment than a 7-night vacation.
- Plenty of entertainment packed into a few days.
- Access to a very large modern cruise ship.
- Bahamas itineraries that are easy for new cruisers to understand.
- Visits to Perfect Day at CocoCay.
- An easy way for first-time passengers to test cruising.
- A quick getaway without using an entire week of vacation time.
That last point shouldn’t be underestimated.
A traveler who isn’t sure whether cruising is for them may hesitate to book seven nights. Three or four nights feel much easier.
And if that first experience involves one of Royal Caribbean’s largest ships, dozens of things to do, and a highly developed private-island destination, there’s a decent chance that the new cruiser returns home feeling like they got a lot out of a short vacation.
Wonder of the Seas Shows a Similar Pattern
Second-place Wonder of the Seas adds weight to the short-cruise argument.
During the latter portion of 2025, Wonder was also operating shorter Bahamas sailings from Miami.
Like Utopia, it’s an Oasis-class ship packed with activities, restaurants, and entertainment options.
For a short getaway, that’s a lot of ship.
Passengers may only have a few days onboard, but there’s very little opportunity to become bored.
In fact, the bigger problem can be trying to squeeze everything in before it’s time to pack.
You might board with plans to see every show, try several specialty restaurants, spend hours by the pool, and explore the entire vessel—only to realize on the final night that you somehow missed half of what was available.
For some cruisers, that’s frustrating.
For others, it’s exactly what encourages them to book another sailing.
Star of the Seas May Be the Biggest Surprise
Utopia winning the overall category is impressive, but Star of the Seas reaching third place deserves just as much attention.
Why?
Because Star didn’t even begin carrying paying guests until August 2025.
That gave the Icon-class cruise ship only part of the year to accumulate passenger reviews, yet it still finished ahead of established ships that have been sailing and building loyal fan bases for years.
Star earned a score of 4.486, putting it behind only Utopia and Wonder.
It also picked up the title of Best New Cruise Ship of 2026.
That’s a remarkably strong early reception.
Still, it’s important to interpret the result carefully. A third-place finish doesn’t scientifically establish Star of the Seas as the third-best cruise ship anywhere in the world.
What it does show is that passengers who sailed during the ship’s first months were generally very satisfied with what they experienced.
For a brand-new megaship, that’s arguably the more useful takeaway.
Icon of the Seas Continues Winning Where You’d Expect
Then there’s Icon of the Seas, which finished seventh overall.
Seventh may not sound spectacular until you remember that every ship above it was also Royal Caribbean.
More importantly, Icon retained the award for Best Ship for Activities and Entertainment, winning that category for a second consecutive year.
That’s almost the perfect category for Icon to win.
Royal Caribbean didn’t design Icon-class ships around the idea of providing a traditional, quiet cruise experience.
These ships are destinations in themselves, with neighborhoods, pools, family attractions, entertainment venues, and a long list of things competing for your time.
You could spend an entire day onboard without worrying much about where the ship is actually sailing.
For families and travelers who want that kind of vacation, the award helps reinforce Icon’s appeal.
For cruisers who primarily care about ports, scenery, and peaceful sea days, however, a giant activity-packed ship may not automatically be the better choice.
And that’s where rankings need a little perspective.
Does a Top-10 Ranking Mean It’s the Right Ship for You?
This is probably the most important thing to remember before using any cruise award to choose your next vacation.
The highest-rated cruise ship isn’t automatically the best cruise ship for you.
Imagine two travelers.
One has two children and wants waterslides, shows, pools, nonstop activities, and enough restaurants to try something different every night.
The other wants a quiet balcony, interesting ports, fewer crowds, and long afternoons reading while watching the ocean.
Give both travelers exactly the same ship, and you could get completely different reviews.
That’s why these rankings are better viewed as a passenger-satisfaction signal than an absolute measurement of quality.
Before booking based on an award, ask yourself:
- Do I want a giant ship or something smaller?
- Is entertainment more important than the itinerary?
- Am I traveling with children?
- Do I enjoy busy pool decks and lots of activities?
- Do I prefer quiet sea days?
- Am I booking mainly for the destinations?
- Do I want a short getaway or a full week onboard?
- How much do dining options matter to me?
Your answers could easily lead you toward a ship that isn’t anywhere near this particular top 10.
And that’s perfectly fine.
The Tiny Score Differences Matter
There’s another reason not to become obsessed with whether your ship ranked fourth, seventh, or ninth.
The numbers are simply too close.
Oasis of the Seas scored 4.461 in fourth place.
Harmony of the Seas scored 4.433 in ninth.
That’s only 0.028 points separating five positions.
Cruise experiences can vary based on everything from weather and itinerary changes to cabin location, service interactions, crowds, and even the group of passengers onboard during a particular week.
Someone could have an incredible sailing aboard the ninth-place ship and a disappointing vacation aboard the No. 1 vessel.
Awards provide useful information, but they can’t predict your individual cruise.
What These Awards Say About Royal Caribbean’s Strategy
Zoom out from the individual ships, and the results reveal something larger about Royal Caribbean.
The cruise line has spent heavily on a simple idea: make the ship itself a major part of the destination.
That philosophy is obvious aboard Oasis- and Icon-class vessels.
Rather than treating sea days as downtime between ports, Royal Caribbean fills them with activities, entertainment, restaurants, and attractions designed to keep passengers busy.
At the same time, the company has increasingly paired those ships with shorter Florida departures and private-destination experiences.
Utopia of the Seas is perhaps the clearest example.
Instead of putting one of its biggest modern ships exclusively on expensive weeklong itineraries, Royal Caribbean placed Utopia into the short-cruise market.
The No. 1 ranking suggests passengers are responding positively to that experiment.
Not Every Winning Ship Is Brand New
One detail shouldn’t get lost among all the excitement around Utopia, Icon, and Star.
Mariner of the Seas finished fifth.
That’s interesting because Mariner represents a very different generation of Royal Caribbean ships from the enormous Oasis- and Icon-class vessels surrounding it on the list.
It shows that passengers aren’t automatically giving the highest ratings only to whichever ship has the newest attractions.
Likewise, Oasis of the Seas reached fourth place, and Symphony of the Seas finished sixth.
So while new megaships dominate the conversation, Royal Caribbean’s strong showing stretches across several vessels and ship generations.
That’s good news for travelers who don’t necessarily need the newest ship in the fleet to have a highly rated vacation.
Legend of the Seas Could Shake Up the Next Awards
If there’s one Royal Caribbean ship worth watching for the next round of rankings, it’s Legend of the Seas.
The third Icon-class vessel has completed sea trials ahead of its planned summer 2026 debut.
And Star of the Seas has already demonstrated how quickly a new Icon-class ship can climb the rankings.
Star entered service in August 2025 and still managed to finish third overall based on the available review period.
Legend will therefore have an interesting opportunity.
If its first passengers respond as enthusiastically as those aboard Star, another Icon-class vessel could appear near the top when the 2027 awards arrive.
Of course, new ships also go through early operational adjustments, and passenger expectations tend to be extremely high.
A brand-new vessel carrying the Royal Caribbean name—and especially the Icon-class label—doesn’t exactly get to arrive quietly.
Seven Straight Wins Send a Pretty Clear Message
Cruise awards will never settle the endless argument over which cruise ship is truly “best.”
Carnival fans will have their favorites. Celebrity passengers may prioritize a different atmosphere.
Holland America cruisers might value things that barely register for someone booking Utopia for a three-night party weekend.
That’s part of what makes cruising interesting.
But Royal Caribbean’s showing in the 2026 Member Choice Awards is difficult to dismiss.
The cruise line took seven consecutive positions at the top, placed eight ships inside the top 10, earned another honorable mention with Allure of the Seas, and collected major awards for entertainment, dining, service, staterooms, and new ships.
Most importantly, those results came from verified passenger reviews rather than a traditional expert judging panel.
Utopia of the Seas emerged as the biggest winner, while Star of the Seas managed an impressive third-place debut after only beginning service in August 2025.
Does that mean you should immediately cancel another cruise and book Royal Caribbean?
Of course not.
But if you’ve already got Utopia, Wonder, Star, Oasis, Mariner, Symphony, Icon, or Harmony on your cruise countdown, these results certainly give you another reason to be excited about stepping onboard.
Ultimately, the best cruise ship is still the one that matches how you actually like to vacation.
But when one cruise line occupies seven consecutive spots at the top of a passenger-voted ranking, it’s safe to say something is working.
