A group of American cruise passengers learned an expensive lesson about local laws after a violent altercation in Nassau resulted in thousands of dollars in fines, compensation payments, and criminal penalties.

Police said the suspects suffered minor injuries during the initial fight at the cruise port and were examined and treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel.
Court Hands Down Heavy Financial Penalties
The legal consequences proved costly.
Rather than imposing immediate jail sentences, the court issued substantial financial penalties while also offering prison time as an alternative for those unable to pay.
Among the largest penalties:
- Daniella Duran was fined $16,600 or face one year in prison. She was also ordered to compensate Corporal Michel $2,500 and Police Constable Hanchell $125.
- Gabriella Aguilar was fined $11,600 or face six months in prison and must compensate Police Constable Hanchell $125.
- Jaeyln Duran was fined $11,600 or face six months in prison and must compensate Police Constable Hanchell $125.
- Andrew Tapia was fined $4,600 or face one year in prison.
- Irvin Castro was fined $2,800 or face six months in prison and must compensate Corporal Michel $2,500.
- Jose Duran was fined $150 for obstruction or face one month in prison.
In addition to the court-imposed fines, several defendants were ordered to compensate injured officers directly for medical expenses and damages.
Final Bill Exceeds $50,000
When all penalties and compensation payments were combined, the financial impact became staggering.
The breakdown included:

- Compensation to officers: $5,375
That pushed the total amount owed by the group to approximately $52,725.
