Maryland officials are welcoming a major expansion at the Port of Baltimore, as Carnival Cruise Line prepares to station a second cruise ship there beginning in 2027.
The move is expected to bring significant economic benefits, expand cruise options for travelers, and strengthen Baltimore’s position as a key East Coast cruise hub.
Carnival Miracle to Begin Seasonal Cruises From Baltimore

The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) has confirmed a new two-year agreement with Carnival Cruise Line that will bring Carnival Miracle to the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore starting in November 2027.
Unlike Carnival Pride, which operates year-round, Carnival Miracle will offer seasonal sailings from November through April, giving passengers additional cruise options during the winter cruise season.
Carnival Miracle belongs to Carnival’s Spirit-class and is similar in size and style to Carnival Pride, making it a natural fit for the Baltimore cruise terminal.
Major Economic Benefits Expected for Maryland
State officials believe the addition of a second Carnival ship will provide a strong economic boost across Maryland.
Governor Wes Moore emphasized how important the Port of Baltimore is to the state’s economy, explaining that cruise ships generate major financial activity every time they visit.
According to officials:
- Each cruise ship visit brings approximately $1 million in economic impact.
- Cruise activity supports hotels, restaurants, and local businesses.
- The port contributes roughly 13% of Maryland’s total GDP.
- More than 400 jobs are supported by cruise operations, including over 200 directly at the port.
This expansion is expected to increase tourism, create more jobs, and attract additional visitors to Baltimore and the surrounding areas.
Expanded Caribbean Cruise Options for Guests

With Carnival Miracle joining Carnival Pride, cruise passengers will have access to a wider variety of itineraries departing directly from Baltimore.
Carnival Miracle will offer sailings to popular destinations, including:
- Aruba
- Curaçao
- Barbados
- St. Lucia
- Antigua
- St. Maarten
The ship will also operate longer voyages lasting 12 to 14 days, giving travelers more opportunities to explore deeper Caribbean destinations without needing to fly to Florida.
This is especially valuable for Mid-Atlantic travelers who prefer driving to a cruise port rather than flying.
Carnival Strengthens Its Long-Standing Baltimore Partnership
Carnival Cruise Line has maintained a strong presence in Baltimore for more than two decades.
Key milestones include:
- Carnival ships have sailed from Baltimore since 2004.
- Carnival Pride launched year-round service in 2009.
- Carnival Pride continues to operate under a five-year contract signed last year.
Carnival President Christine Duffy highlighted the importance of Baltimore, noting that the cruise line values the loyal passenger base and strong maritime tradition in the region.
The addition of Carnival Miracle reflects Carnival’s long-term commitment to Baltimore and its confidence in the port’s future growth.
Baltimore Positioned as a Major Mid-Atlantic Cruise Hub
Port officials believe Baltimore’s strategic location makes it an ideal cruise departure point.
Key advantages include:
- Easy access from major highways like Interstate 95.
- Large regional population within driving distance.
- Modern cruise terminal facilities.
- Strong passenger demand for convenient East Coast departures.
Officials say the expansion reinforces Baltimore’s status as one of the most important cruise ports in the Mid-Atlantic region.
What This Means for Cruise Passengers
For cruise travelers, this expansion brings several important benefits:
- More cruise departure dates from Baltimore.
- Greater variety of Caribbean itineraries.
- More opportunities for longer, destination-focused voyages.
- Increased availability of sailings without needing to fly.
The arrival of Carnival Miracle will significantly increase cruise capacity from Baltimore and give travelers more flexibility when planning their vacations.
