But on Monday morning in Singapore, that routine was interrupted by a far more serious situation aboard a Royal Caribbean ship.
After docking back in Singapore, a passenger was discovered deceased inside his stateroom, prompting an investigation and delaying guests from leaving the ship.

Authorities confirmed:
- A 27-year-old man was found unresponsive inside his cabin
- Police were notified at approximately 6:35 a.m.
- The ship had already returned to Singapore at the time
The incident took place aboard Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas, which had just arrived at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre.
The ship’s onboard doctor pronounced the man dead after he was found motionless in his room.

Disembarkation Delayed After Authorities Step In
The situation also affected passengers planning to leave the ship that morning.
Although Ovation of the Seas docked as scheduled around 7:00 a.m., guests were not immediately allowed to disembark.
One Cruiser shared that:
- No passengers were cleared to leave the ship even hours after docking
- Singapore authorities had not yet approved disembarkation
- Groups of guests were being called to Guest Services throughout the morning
The same guest reported hearing two separate “Alpha, Alpha, Alpha” announcements — one around 4:00 a.m. and another closer to 5:30 a.m.
Delays like this are not uncommon when a death occurs onboard, as local authorities must complete required procedures before clearing the ship.
About the Cruise Itinerary
The incident occurred at the end of a short regional sailing.
Ovation of the Seas had just completed a three-night cruise to Penang, which departed on January 16.
The ship is scheduled to depart again later the same day for another three-night Penang sailing, pending clearance.
