Disney Cruise Line guests sailing at the end of January 2026 are seeing itinerary changes as weather conditions in the Bahamas deteriorate.
A developing system bringing strong winds and rough seas has prompted Disney to adjust plans for two ships departing on Friday, January 30, 2026.
Both Disney Wish and Disney Dream are altering their routes to maintain safe sailing and docking conditions for guests and crew.
Weather System Behind the Changes
According to Disney Cruise Line, forecasts showed conditions that could make docking unsafe, especially at private island destinations.
The weather concerns include:
- Strong winds.
- Adverse sea conditions.
- Reduced docking safety at island piers.
Disney emphasized that these decisions were made proactively to avoid last-minute risks once ships were already at port.
Disney Dream Adjusts Its Route
Disney Dream, which also departed on Friday, January 30, 2026, is sailing a separate 3-night Bahamas itinerary from Port Everglades.
Originally, the ship was scheduled to visit:
- Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on Saturday.
- Nassau on Sunday, February 1.
However, as guests were boarding on Friday afternoon, they were informed that Nassau would no longer be possible.
In the letter provided to guests, Disney explained:
“We will instead spend the day at sea, where conditions are forecasted to be more favorable.”
As a result:
- Nassau is removed from Disney Dream’s itinerary.
- Guests will enjoy a full sea day instead.
Why the Ships Are Being Handled Differently
Several practical factors appear to be influencing Disney’s decisions this weekend:

Six ships are scheduled to be in Nassau on Sunday, February 1, including:- Wonder of the Seas
- Adventure of the Seas
- MSC Grandiosa
- Celebrity Constellation
- Margaritaville Paradise
- Disney Wish
- Ship size and maneuverability:
Disney Dream (129,700 gross tons) is slightly smaller than Disney Wish (144,000 gross tons). - Homeport distance:
- Nassau is about 185 miles from Port Everglades
- Nassau is about 320 miles from Port Canaveral
These differences allow Disney Dream more flexibility to sail away from rough conditions without affecting its return schedule.
Disney Wish Also Cancels Castaway Cay Stop
Disney Wish, sailing a 3-night Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral, was originally scheduled to visit Nassau on Saturday, January 31, followed by Disney Castaway Cay on Sunday, February 1, before returning home on Monday, February 2.
That plan has now changed.
In a letter delivered to guests onboard, Disney Cruise Line stated:
“Given the anticipated strong winds and adverse sea conditions predicted in The Bahamas overnight on Saturday and during the day on Sunday, we will not be able to visit Disney Castaway Cay on Sunday.”
Instead, the ship will remain longer in Nassau.
Updated plan for Disney Wish:
- Extra time in Nassau on Saturday night.
- Continued stay through Sunday morning.
- Castaway Cay visit removed entirely.
Disney added in the same notice:
“We will instead spend extra time in Nassau, on Saturday night and throughout the morning on Sunday.”
What Happens to Castaway Cay Excursions?
Guests who had pre-booked Port Adventures for Castaway Cay don’t need to take any action.
Disney confirmed:
- All Castaway Cay Port Adventures will be automatically canceled.
- Full refunds will be issued back to onboard accounts.
- New experiences can be booked via:
- Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.
- Port Adventures Desk on Deck 4 near the Grand Atrium.
Disney Reaffirms Safety Comes First
Disney Cruise Line closed its message to guests by reinforcing its long-standing safety policy:
“The safety and well-being of our Guests and Crew Members is our highest priority. We appreciate your understanding regarding this necessary itinerary change.”
While missing a private island visit can be disappointing, the cruise line stressed that strong winds can make docking and pier access unsafe — especially for large vessels.
