Just a day into its voyage from New York City, the Island Princess faced an unexpected emergency at sea—a fire incident that unfolded early this morning.

The situation caught attention after a passenger tipped off Cruise News Today, reporting a fire onboard the vessel.

About the Island Princess Cruise Itinerary

The Island Princess is on an 18-night cruise to Greenland and Canada, having set sail from New York City on July 16, 2025.

The ship is scheduled to return on August 1, 2025.

Planned Ports of Call:

  • Halifax
  • Sydney
  • St. John’s
  • Nanortalik
  • Qaqortoq
  • Paamiut
  • Nuuk

The voyage also includes 10 sea days, giving passengers a blend of adventure and relaxation.

Emergency Alarm and Captain’s Announcements

At 6:00 am local time in Halifax, passengers were startled awake by the ship’s emergency alarm.

Moments later, the Captain addressed everyone, informing them of a fire that had started on Deck 12.

By 6:20 am, the Captain provided an update, assuring guests that the crew was already handling the situation using extinguishers and foam.

He emphasized that there was no threat to passenger safety, offering much-needed reassurance to everyone onboard.

Fire Contained and All-Clear Given

About 15 minutes later, passengers received another announcement confirming that the fire had been extinguished.

Still, as a safety measure, a second team was sent to the scene to double-check and ensure everything was completely under control.

Once again, the Captain reiterated that guests had nothing to worry about.

At 7:10 am, the all-clear signal sounded, and crew members were instructed to stand down.

The ship remained on schedule for its next stop in Halifax, with the Captain promising to share more details with passengers around noon.

First-Hand Accounts From Passengers

One passenger, Christina Wandell, took to Facebook to post a video update confirming the fire had been put out.

She also mentioned that the incident happened in the galley on Deck 12.

Another traveler shared their experience on Reddit, noting how eventful their first Princess cruise had been so far.

They reported that earlier that night, between 2:00 and 3:00 am, there was a medical evacuation by helicopter, followed by the early morning fire.

“Last night around 2-3 am there was a medical evacuation via helicopter, and this morning around 6 am there was a fire on Deck 12 which was just put out. Things have been exciting thus far on my first Princess cruise!”

Official Response From Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises confirmed that the fire was swiftly brought under control and that all guests and crew are safe.

We’ll keep monitoring the situation and share any new information as it becomes available.
