The world’s largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas, had an unexpected early return to PortMiami after a fight onboard left multiple passengers injured.
The incident happened just hours after the ship had set sail, cutting short the start of what should have been a relaxing Bahamas getaway.
Medical Response Onboard
According to Royal Caribbean, the altercation involved several adult guests.
The ship’s medical team immediately provided care to those hurt in the fight, and upon returning to Miami, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue also stepped in to assist with additional treatment.
In a statement, the cruise line explained:
“Our team provided medical care to adult guests who were involved in an altercation onboard, and the guests are being treated for their injuries. We notified local authorities and are working closely with them. As this is an ongoing investigation, we have no more information to share at this time.”
Vessel tracking data from Marine Vessel Traffic confirms the ship’s sudden turnaround back to Miami shortly after departure.
What Happened Onboard

Exactly what sparked the fight remains unclear, but it happened very early in the sailing, just after Wonder of the Seas left Miami on what was supposed to be a 4-night Bahamas cruise.
The itinerary included stops at Nassau and Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, before returning on Friday.
Reports suggest the injuries were significant enough that the captain decided to turn the ship around almost immediately after departure.
Initial information indicates that two passengers required hospitalization once the vessel returned to PortMiami.
Some social media posts from onboard guests have added more detail, suggesting the fight may have happened near the pool area.
One passenger allegedly suffered a broken ankle during the altercation.
Royal Caribbean confirmed that the dispute involved a small group of passengers, not a ship-wide issue, but it was serious enough to disrupt the sailing.
Law Enforcement Response
Once Wonder of the Seas returned to PortMiami, Miami-Dade Police and the U.S. Coast Guard were called in to handle the situation.
The cruise line confirmed they immediately notified local authorities and have been cooperating fully with the investigation.
So far, officials have not released the names of those involved, nor have they confirmed whether any arrests were made.
Since the investigation is ongoing, details remain limited. It’s worth noting that Royal Caribbean, like other cruise lines, enforces a strict code of conduct for guests.
In cases of violent behavior, passengers can face serious consequences—including being banned from sailing with the cruise line in the future.
While Royal Caribbean hasn’t yet stated whether anyone will be disembarked or permanently banned because of this fight, they have assured that they are assisting investigators every step of the way.
The Cruise Continues
Despite the disruption on the very first day, Wonder of the Seas was able to resume her sailing after returning to PortMiami.
Once medical care was provided and authorities had been updated, the ship set off again on her short itinerary.
Guests who were not involved in the incident continued with their vacation, enjoying all the amenities onboard and the scheduled stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay.
For most passengers, the flight quickly became just an unfortunate story rather than a cruise-ending event.
The ship’s entertainment, dining, and activities carried on as planned, reminding guests why Wonder of the Seas is one of the most popular ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet.
