After months of anticipation and a few earlier delays, Disney Cruise Line has officially welcomed its largest ship to date.
The cruise line has now taken delivery of Disney Adventure, marking the eighth vessel in Disney’s growing fleet — and a major milestone for the brand.
The handover took place during a formal delivery ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, where the shipbuilder officially transferred ownership to Disney.
With that symbolic exchange, Disney Adventure moved from being a construction project to a fully fledged member of the Disney Cruise Line fleet.
A New Era for Disney Cruising Begins
Disney Cruise Line shared the milestone with fans on social media, confirming that the ship is now one step closer to entering service.
According to Disney, Disney Adventure will make Singapore its homeport, with its maiden voyage scheduled for March 2026.
That debut will mark the first time Disney has based a cruise ship year-round in Southeast Asia, signaling a major expansion into a new global market.
While most Disney ships traditionally sail in the Caribbean or Europe, this vessel is charting a very different course — both geographically and in design.
By Far Disney’s Largest Cruise Ship Ever
To put Disney Adventure’s size into perspective, it stands in a league of its own within the fleet.
Disney’s newest Wish-class ships measure around 144,000 gross tons and carry close to 4,000 passengers.
By comparison, Disney Adventure comes in at approximately 208,000 gross tons, with an estimated 6,000-passenger capacity.
That makes the ship roughly 45% larger than the next-biggest Disney vessel — a dramatic leap in scale that reflects Disney’s ambition for this project.
A Ship With a Very Different Origin Story
Unlike every other Disney cruise ship, Disney Adventure was not originally designed for Disney at all.
The vessel began life as Global Dream, a massive cruise ship under construction for another cruise line that ultimately collapsed during the pandemic.
When work stopped, the ship was already about 75% complete.
Disney saw an opportunity and acquired the unfinished ship in 2022, reportedly paying a fraction of its original construction cost.
From there, Disney’s legendary Imagineers stepped in to completely reimagine the interior — transforming a partially built ship into a fully immersive Disney experience.
Seven Themed Zones and a Record-Breaking Coaster
Instead of the traditional layout Disney cruisers are used to, Disney Adventure is designed around seven massive themed areas, each with its own identity and atmosphere.
Some of the standout zones include:
- Marvel Landing
- San Fransokyo Street (inspired by Big Hero 6)
One of the ship’s biggest headline attractions is Ironcycle Test Run, a roller coaster stretching more than 820 feet, making it the longest roller coaster at sea.
This marks a bold shift toward large-scale, theme-park-style experiences — something Disney is clearly leaning into with its newest ships.
Next Stop: Singapore
With delivery complete, Disney Adventure will now prepare for its long journey to Singapore, where it will be based for at least five years.
Once in service, the ship will offer three- and four-night cruises, a format tailored to the regional market and first-time cruisers — another departure from Disney’s longer Caribbean itineraries.
This move also represents Disney Cruise Line’s first permanent deployment in Southeast Asia, a strategic expansion that could reshape its global footprint.
What Happens Before Guests Step Onboard
Although Disney now officially owns the ship, there’s still work to be done before the first passengers arrive.
Over the coming months, Disney will focus on:
- Completing final outfitting and décor
- Installing intricate Disney-themed details throughout the ship
- Training thousands of crew members
- Conducting final operational and safety testing
All of it is designed to ensure the ship meets Disney’s famously high standards before welcoming its first guests in March 2026.
