A Tennessee man was taken into custody at PortMiami after authorities discovered child pornography on his phone during a routine customs check.
The incident happened on September 13, shortly after the man, identified as 48-year-old Jason Alan Miller, disembarked a Carnival Cruise that had visited the Cayman Islands.
Miller was stopped for a random secondary screening, a standard process for returning travelers. During the search, he provided officers with the passcode to his Samsung Galaxy phone.
Discovery of Illegal Content
Upon inspection, agents found disturbing material stored in his Google Photos app.
According to court records, one hidden folder contained 45 explicit images, some labeled under the name “6yo_rare.”
Investigators noted that the images appeared to depict child sexual abuse, confirming that the material met the definition of child pornography under federal law.
Family Details and Context
At the time of his arrest, Miller was traveling with his pregnant wife and eight children, ages ranging from 5 to 12.
Authorities confirmed that seven of the children were foster kids who had later been adopted by the Millers.
Reports also state that Miller had fostered at least 20 children over the years.
The discovery of the illegal material shocked many, considering his long history of fostering and adopting children.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Following the discovery, Miller allegedly admitted to investigators that he was aware of the content on his phone and confirmed that no one else had access to the device.
He was formally charged with possession and transportation of child pornography, both serious federal offenses.
If convicted, he could face significant prison time as well as mandatory registration as a sex offender.
Court documents note that the investigation is ongoing, and additional details about Miller’s case are expected as proceedings move forward.
