That’s exactly the situation unfolding right now after a woman traveling solo vanished during a Mediterranean cruise aboard AIDA Cruises’ ship AIDAluna.
Family members and friends are urgently turning to social media, hoping someone — anyone — might have seen or spoken to her before she disappeared.
Who Is Missing?
The missing guest has been identified as Qin Dong, a Chinese citizen and German resident.
She was traveling alone on a short Mediterranean sailing and has not been seen since Friday, December 12, 2025, while the ship was docked in Marseille.
Despite the ship completing its voyage and returning to port, Dong was no longer onboard.
Timeline: What We Know So Far
Dong boarded AIDAluna on December 10 in Palma de Mallorca, just before noon, for a 5-night Mediterranean cruise scheduled to visit:
- Marseille, France
- Palamós, Spain
- Barcelona, Spain
According to cruise officials, Dong officially boarded the ship and never formally disembarked at any port during the sailing.
- December 11: Day at sea
- December 12: Ship arrived in Marseille around 8:00 a.m.
- December 12 (evening): Friends were still texting with Dong around 8:00 p.m. — roughly two hours after the ship departed Marseille
- December 15: The Ship returned to Palma de Mallorca, but Dong was missing
AIDA Cruises later confirmed:
“Mrs. Dong has not officially disembarked from the ship since 10 December, as verified.”
This confirmation suggests she was not left behind in Marseille, making the circumstances even more troubling.
Did She Go Overboard?
At this time, there is no confirmation that Dong went overboard.
According to onboard records:
- Only one charge appeared on her ship account
- That charge was for an orange juice, not alcohol
There were also no emergency overboard alerts, no ship-wide alarms, and no reported search-and-rescue operations during the voyage.
Because of this, authorities and family members are left trying to piece together what may have happened during the evening hours after the ship departed Marseille.
