When you book a cruise months in advance, it’s easy to imagine yourself walking through your favorite ports long before embarkation day arrives.
Maybe you’ve already picked out the restaurant you want to visit, booked a snorkeling excursion, or planned to snap a photo at one of the destination’s famous landmarks.
That’s why itinerary updates can be disappointing, especially when a long-awaited port disappears entirely.
That’s now the reality for some guests sailing aboard Celebrity Summit, as Celebrity Cruises has announced itinerary changes affecting three separate November 2026 voyages.
While every cruise will still visit exciting destinations, some passengers will be saying goodbye to ports they originally expected to visit—and in one case, a completely different country has been added to the itinerary.
The cruise line says the adjustments are primarily the result of berthing availability and ongoing port operational planning.
The Biggest Change Removes Key West Entirely
Passengers booked on Celebrity Summit’s November 1, 2026, sailing will notice the most significant itinerary change.
Originally sold as a “Key West & Bahamas” cruise, the voyage will no longer visit Key West at all.
Instead, Celebrity Cruises has replaced the Florida stop with a full-day visit to Cozumel, Mexico, giving passengers an international destination instead of one of Florida’s most famous cruise ports.
For travelers who were looking forward to exploring Duval Street, visiting the Southernmost Point, or enjoying a slice of Key lime pie before heading back to the ship, the news will certainly come as a disappointment.
On the other hand, guests who enjoy beaches, snorkeling, and Mexican cuisine may see Cozumel as a welcome alternative.

Although the overall cruise length remains unchanged, replacing Key West with Cozumel also means the itinerary now includes an additional sea day where guests had previously expected another port experience.
Why Celebrity Had to Make the Change
Unlike weather-related cancellations or technical problems affecting a cruise ship, this adjustment appears to be entirely port-related.
Celebrity Cruises says berthing availability in Key West forced the change.
Every day, ports coordinate arrivals from multiple cruise lines, cargo vessels, ferries, and other commercial traffic.
Occasionally, scheduling conflicts occur that simply leave no available berth for a ship.
When that happens, cruise lines are often left with only two realistic choices:
- Cancel the port completely.
- Replace it with another available destination.
In this case, Celebrity chose the second option.
Rather than removing a destination altogether, the cruise line added Cozumel to preserve the number of port calls during the voyage.
What Happens If You Already Booked Excursions?
One of the first questions many passengers ask after receiving an itinerary update is about shore excursions.
Celebrity has confirmed that guests who booked tours directly through the cruise line won’t need to do anything.
The cruise line will automatically:
- Cancel Key West excursions.
- Refund purchases to the original payment method.
- Open bookings for Cozumel excursions once the new schedule is finalized.
Celebrity notes that new excursions for Cozumel may take up to ten business days to appear on its website and mobile app.
Passengers who arranged independent tours, however, will need to contact those operators themselves regarding cancellations or refunds.
Two More Celebrity Summit Cruises Are Also Changing
The November 1 voyage isn’t the only sailing receiving itinerary updates.
Celebrity Cruises has also revised schedules for departures on November 8 and November 22, although the changes are handled differently for each cruise.
That means guests booked later in the month should also check their reservation carefully rather than assuming their itinerary remains unchanged.
November 8 Sailing Keeps Every Port — But Changes the Order
Passengers sailing on November 8 won’t lose any destinations.
Instead, Celebrity has reorganized the itinerary to work around another reported berth availability issue.
Rather than eliminating ports, the cruise line has simply reshuffled the sailing schedule.
Revised Port Order
The updated itinerary now includes:
- Sea Day – November 10
- Belize City – November 11
- Cozumel – November 12
- Costa Maya – November 13
For many travelers, this is probably the best possible outcome.
The destinations remain exactly the same, allowing passengers to experience every planned stop with only the order changing.
Guests who booked excursions through Celebrity will automatically have their tour reservations adjusted to match the revised schedule.
Independent excursion bookings, however, may require manual changes with local tour providers.
November 22 Cruise Loses Costa Maya
The third itinerary adjustment affects Celebrity Summit’s November 22, 2026, departure.
This time, the cruise line has decided to remove Costa Maya from the itinerary entirely after reviewing operations at the Mexican cruise port.
Rather than leaving a gap in the schedule, Celebrity has added another popular Caribbean destination.
Passengers will now visit:

- George Town, Grand Cayman
The updated schedule calls for the ship to spend the previous day at sea before arriving in Grand Cayman from:
7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
For many cruise fans, Grand Cayman may actually be viewed as a strong replacement thanks to its famous Seven Mile Beach, Stingray City excursions, and crystal-clear waters.
Still, passengers who specifically booked the itinerary to experience Costa Maya may understandably be disappointed.
Refunds and New Excursions
Celebrity Cruises has confirmed that shore excursions purchased for Costa Maya through the cruise line will automatically be refunded.
Passengers won’t need to contact Guest Services or submit a refund request.
The cruise line also says new excursions for Grand Cayman will become available shortly after itinerary updates are fully processed.
Guests can expect:
- Automatic Costa Maya refunds.
- New Grand Cayman excursions within approximately ten business days.
- Updated booking information through Celebrity’s app and website.
As always, passengers who booked private tours independently should contact those operators directly.
