What started as a vision over ten years ago is now about to make waves in the cruising world.
Back in 2014, Carnival Cruise Line pitched a proposal to the Bahamian government—an ambitious plan to create a private port experience just east of Freeport on Grand Bahama Island.
Fast forward a decade, and that vision is finally a reality. This week, Celebration Key, Carnival’s newest private cruise destination, officially opens its doors.
The honor of being the first ship to dock? That goes to the Carnival Vista, set to arrive on Saturday, July 19.
What Makes Celebration Key Stand Out?
Unlike your typical cruise stop, Celebration Key has been designed with both fun and flexibility in mind. The port features a two-ship pier, but that’s just the start.
Plans are already in motion to extend the pier, eventually allowing up to four Carnival cruise ships to visit at once.

Not a fan of sticking around the port all day? No worries—Carnival will also offer a range of shore excursions throughout Grand Bahama Island, giving guests the freedom to explore beyond the key.

Beyond its stunning design, Celebration Key marks a significant milestone for Grand Bahama Island.
As Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy highlighted last week:
“Celebration Key is a beautiful destination that I know will be extremely popular with our guests, but it’s also a beautiful representation of the great partnership between Carnival and the people of Grand Bahama.”
This is the first major development project on the island in over 20 years, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of hundreds of Bahamian workers who helped bring it to life.
Carnival isn’t stopping there—the port’s daily operations are set to create hundreds of permanent jobs, providing a lasting economic boost for the local community.
As Duffy emphasized, it’s about both creating unforgettable guest experiences and celebrating the heart of Bahamian culture.
