Passengers preparing to board Carnival Sunshine in Norfolk are facing unexpected changes after severe winter weather disrupted the ship’s schedule.
Port closures, freezing temperatures, and strong winds have forced Carnival Cruise Line to delay embarkation and cancel one of the cruise’s key destinations.
While the cruise will still operate, guests will now follow a revised boarding schedule and sail a shortened itinerary.
Storm Forces Ship to Arrive a Day Later Than Planned
Carnival Sunshine was originally scheduled to return to Norfolk, Virginia, on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
However, dangerous weather conditions and the temporary closure of the port made it impossible for the ship to dock safely.
Instead, the vessel will now arrive on Sunday morning, February 8.
Carnival confirmed the update in an official communication to guests, emphasizing the importance of following updated instructions to ensure a smooth embarkation process.
Despite the delay, the ship is still expected to depart Norfolk later the same day.
Guests Must Follow Original Check-In Times — But One Day Later
Even though embarkation has been delayed by a full day, Carnival has instructed guests to arrive at the cruise terminal at their originally scheduled check-in time.
The key difference is that boarding will now take place on Sunday instead of Saturday.
Important boarding requirements include:
- Guests must arrive according to their original terminal arrival appointment.
- All passengers must complete check-in no later than 3:00 PM.
- The ship is expected to depart Norfolk by approximately 4:30 PM.
- Embarkation procedures will remain the same despite the delay.
