If you’ve cruised with Carnival even once, you already know this: rumors spread faster than a Guy’s Burger line on embarkation day.
From supposed menu overhauls to phone bans and muster drill changes, Carnival Cruise Line regularly finds itself clearing up misinformation that takes on a life of its own online.
The latest rumor making the rounds?
That Carnival has quietly increased the Cheers! drink package limit from 15 alcoholic drinks per day to 24.
Sounds tempting — but it’s completely false.
Carnival’s Brand Ambassador Steps In

As the rumor gained traction across Facebook pages and cruise groups, Carnival’s longtime brand ambassador John Heald stepped in to shut it down before it spread any further.
According to Heald, multiple guests began tagging him in posts claiming that, as of December 1, Carnival had raised the daily alcohol limit on the Cheers! package.
That claim, he made clear, isn’t just incorrect — it’s made up.
Heald explained that the cruise line has not increased the limit, does not plan to, and that the Cheers! package remains capped at 15 alcoholic drinks within a 24-hour period.
In his typically blunt style, he urged guests to ignore the viral posts entirely and treat them as nonsense rather than fact.
While he didn’t name the specific Facebook pages responsible, some of the groups spreading the rumor reportedly have thousands of active members, which explains how the misinformation spread so quickly.
How These Rumors Gain Traction So Fast
This is a textbook example of how “too-good-to-be-true” cruise rumors explode online.
All it takes is:
- One popular Facebook post
- A few confident-sounding comments
- Zero source verification
And suddenly, guests are planning vacations based on information that was never true to begin with.
Unfortunately, many cruisers assume that if a post looks official or gets shared enough times, it must be accurate — even when it doesn’t come from Carnival directly.
Why the Timing Made the Rumor Seem Believable
The rumor also surfaced shortly after a high-profile lawsuit involving Royal Caribbean, in which a passenger allegedly died in 2024 after being served 33 alcoholic drinks in just a few hours.
That case sparked renewed discussion across the cruise community about alcohol service, drink packages, and onboard responsibility — which may have made Carnival’s supposed “limit increase” feel oddly believable to some.
In reality, the opposite is true.
Why Carnival Won’t Raise the Drink Limit

John Heald made it clear that Carnival is not considering any increase to the daily alcohol cap — and he didn’t feel the need to spell out why.
The reasoning is fairly obvious.
Alcohol is frequently linked to:
- Guest altercations
- Aggressive behavior toward the crew
- Medical emergencies
- Falls, injuries, and overboard incidents
By enforcing a firm daily limit on its all-inclusive alcohol package, Carnival aims to reduce the most serious risks associated with excessive drinking — while still allowing guests to enjoy themselves.
What the Cheers! Package Actually Includes

One important detail that often gets overlooked:
The 15-drink limit applies only to alcoholic beverages.
The Cheers! package also includes unlimited non-alcoholic drinks, such as:
- Soda
- Juice
- Bottled water
- Specialty coffee and tea
- Energy drinks
Those do not count toward the daily alcohol cap.
For guests who don’t drink alcohol at all, Carnival also offers:
- Bottomless Bubbles (soda-focused)
- Cheers! Zero Proof, a newer non-alcoholic package
Neither of those packages has a daily drink limit.
Does the Limit Actually Encourage Overdrinking?
Interestingly, not everyone believes the drink cap helps.
Some cruisers argue that putting a number on alcohol consumption turns it into a challenge rather than a guideline.
One guest summed it up bluntly:
“Some people take 15 as a challenge. It becomes a game — get to 15 before you’re cut off.”
And there’s some truth to that. Guests trying to “get their money’s worth” may drink faster or choose stronger cocktails, which can lead to quicker intoxication.
But tolerance varies widely. Factors like:
- Body chemistry
- Food intake
- Drink strength
- Pace of consumption
all affect how alcohol impacts each person.
The Bottom Line for Cruise Guests
At the end of the day, Carnival’s stance is clear:
- The Cheers! drink package limit is still 15 alcoholic drinks per day
- No increase has happened
- No increase is planned
The responsibility ultimately falls on guests to know their limits, pace themselves, and drink in a way that keeps their vacation enjoyable — not memorable for the wrong reasons.
And as always, if you see cruise news that sounds unbelievable, check the source — preferably Carnival itself — before assuming it’s true.
