Carnival Cruise Line is working to restore normal operations after a widespread IT outage affected ships across its fleet, disrupting onboard services and delaying embarkation and debarkation for many passengers.
The outage, which began following scheduled system maintenance on February 8 and 9, left guests temporarily without access to key digital tools, forcing both passengers and crew to rely on manual processes.
Carnival HUB App and Digital Services Temporarily Disabled

One of the biggest impacts was the shutdown of the Carnival HUB app, which plays a central role in the cruise experience.
Without it, passengers were unable to:
- View daily activity schedules.
- Make restaurant reservations.
- Use onboard messaging to contact family or friends.
- Check account balances or manage onboard purchases.
Crew members were also forced to switch to paper-based systems for transactions, including purchases at bars, restaurants, and shops.
This significantly slowed onboard operations and created inconvenience for guests who rely on digital tools throughout their cruise.
Embarkation and Debarkation Delays Reported
The IT outage also caused delays at cruise terminals, as staff were unable to use automated check-in and check-out systems.
Without functioning digital systems, the crew had to manually process passenger information, which extended boarding and disembarkation times on several ships.
Carnival confirmed the disruption in a statement on its website, saying:
“Carnival is experiencing some IT issues that occurred during planned maintenance resulting in delays of debarkation and embarkation, as well as slowing down some other technology tools.”
However, the cruise line reassured passengers that navigation and safety systems were never affected.
Systems Gradually Returning to Normal

As of February 10, Carnival reported that many onboard systems were beginning to recover.
Some ships had already restored key functions, while others were still working to bring systems like point-of-sale transactions fully back online.
Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald also reassured guests that the company is actively working to resolve the problem and will continue updating passengers.
Guests sailing in the coming days may still notice minor disruptions, but Carnival expects full service to be restored shortly.
Second IT Incident in Recent Months
This outage marks the second major IT-related issue Carnival has faced in recent months.
A similar system problem occurred in late December aboard Carnival Firenze, raising concerns among some passengers about system reliability.
Despite the disruptions, Carnival emphasized that critical ship operations, including navigation and safety systems, remained fully functional throughout the incident.
What This Means for Upcoming Cruises
Passengers preparing for upcoming Carnival sailings should expect operations to continue improving as systems return to normal.
While temporary inconveniences occurred, there were no safety risks associated with the outage.
Carnival continues to monitor the situation and is working to ensure future cruises operate smoothly with full digital functionality restored.
