Passengers arriving at the Port of Baltimore this weekend were greeted by something they probably weren’t expecting—a 40-foot-tall inflatable Uncle Sam hat towering above the deck of a Carnival cruise ship.
The oversized patriotic display wasn’t part of a new attraction or themed sailing.
Instead, it marked the beginning of Carnival Cruise Line’s nationwide celebration honoring America’s 250th anniversary, with similar events planned at several U.S. homeports leading up to Independence Day.
From military tributes and ceremonial events to festive decorations and onboard celebrations, Carnival is leaning heavily into the historic milestone as ships across its fleet prepare for the July 4 holiday.
Baltimore Hosts the First America250 Celebration
The celebrations officially began on June 28 aboard Carnival Pride, which was docked in Baltimore before departing on a seven-night Bahamas cruise.
Before guests boarded the ship, Carnival welcomed veterans, military families, community leaders, local officials, and business partners for a special ceremony recognizing the nation’s upcoming 250th birthday.
The event combined patriotic traditions with the fun atmosphere Carnival is known for, creating a unique sendoff before passengers set sail.

Following the festivities, Carnival Pride departed Baltimore at 4:30 p.m. as scheduled.
The ship is now sailing a seven-night Bahamas itinerary featuring visits to:
- Nassau
- Princess Cays
- Celebration Key
Interestingly, passengers will actually spend July 4 at sea before returning to Baltimore the following day.
That means guests will celebrate Independence Day aboard the ship with Carnival’s special holiday programming while sailing back toward Maryland.
More Homeports Will Join the Celebration
Baltimore is only the beginning.
Carnival has confirmed that several additional U.S. homeports will host their own America250 celebrations during the days leading up to July 4.
Although the cruise line hasn’t released every detail, more patriotic events are expected across multiple regions of the country.
Long Beach
One of the biggest celebrations could take place in Long Beach, California.
The Southern California homeport currently serves:
- Carnival Panorama
- Carnival Radiance
- Carnival Firenze
Because the three ships don’t all embark on the same day, Carnival hasn’t confirmed whether one celebration or multiple events will be held there.
Tampa
Tampa is also scheduled to participate.
Home to Carnival Paradise, the Florida port is expected to host its own patriotic event around the beginning of July.
The ship is scheduled to sail on July 2, although Carnival has not yet confirmed the exact timing of the celebration.
Jacksonville
Another celebration is planned for Jacksonville while Carnival Elation is in port.
Like Tampa, the exact schedule has not yet been announced, but Carnival has confirmed Jacksonville is part of the nationwide program.

The patriotic activities won’t end once passengers board.
Carnival has already outlined several onboard events that guests can expect throughout the July 4 holiday.
