Marella Cruises has announced that Marella Discovery 2 will become a permanent adults-only ship beginning with the winter 2027–2028 season, making it the second vessel in the company’s fleet dedicated exclusively to guests aged 17 and older.
The move follows the success of its first adults-only ship and signals that demand for child-free cruising continues to grow.
A Complete Transformation Is Planned

Every area currently dedicated to children and teenagers will disappear before the ship returns to service for the winter 2027 season.

While Discovery 2 is changing its focus, the cruise line says the rest of the fleet will continue welcoming guests of all ages.

Where Will the Newly Converted Ship Sail?
The redesigned Marella Discovery 2 won’t be staying in one place.
Beginning in November 2027, the ship will spend the winter season sailing from the Canary Islands.
Its primary homeports will be:
- Tenerife
- Gran Canaria
From there, passengers will sail to destinations across Europe and North Africa during the winter months.
One of the biggest additions will be an entirely new itinerary.
New “Atlantic Fusion” Cruise
Among the new voyages is a seven-night itinerary called Atlantic Fusion, featuring destinations including:
- Lanzarote
- La Palma
- Agadir, Morocco
The route combines Spanish islands with North African ports, giving travelers a mix of beach destinations, volcanic landscapes, and cultural experiences.
Later in the season, the ship will relocate once again.
Spring 2028 Brings Another Homeport Change
After completing its Canary Islands program, Marella Discovery 2 will reposition to mainland Spain.
During March and April 2028, the ship will sail from Malaga, operating shorter regional cruises along Spain’s southern coastline while also offering repositioning voyages.
These sailings are expected to include routes around:
- Costa del Sol
- Gibraltar
- Western Mediterranean waters
For travelers looking for shorter European cruises, the additional departures create even more itinerary choices.
Bookings Open Much Sooner Than You Might Think
Although the first adults-only voyages won’t begin until late 2027, guests won’t have to wait that long to reserve a cabin.
Marella Cruises has confirmed that bookings for the new itineraries will officially open on July 2, 2026.
That gives travelers more than a year to plan, compare itineraries, and secure preferred cabins before the ship enters its new adults-only era.
Early booking may be especially important given the growing popularity of child-free cruising across Europe.
